Well, most of the single stage compressors are also likely to have two storage tanks, but that does not mean that it is a two stage system. The larger tank you get on the two stage compressor is used for the first stage compression. The single stage compressor will come with two tanks just for balancing the weight of the compressor.
The finishing of the two stage air compressor will have a fan housing or commonly called as the intercooler tube. The aim of the intercooler is for cooling the air before it faces the second compression. The intercooler would be attached to a pump for the cooling purposes. The single stage compressor would not have any fancy intercoolers to keep the air cool. It is because, after the first compression, the air is sent straight for storage.
It is without a doubt that the dual stage air compressor would have more storage space as compared to the single stage. The reason is that the double compression means that you get to store more compressed air in the storage tank. It is always easy when you compare the two, the dual stage model will always have more storage capacity even when it might look to be of the same size as the single stage model.
Cost and efficiency
In terms of the cost, the two stage conditioner would always cost more than the one stage counterpart. The price can go even higher depending on the type and make of the compressor. As much as it can be expensive to buy for the first time, it is always seen to be easier to run and cost-effective in the long run.
When it comes to efficiency, the two will be operating at different efficiencies. For the single stage air compressor, it will be running at full capacity in the cycles thus the on and off cycles will reduce the system’s efficiency.
As for the two-stage compressor, it is cooled at the lower speeds for a long period of time. This means that the air conditioner unit will save more energy and still run constantly for long thanks to the cooling.
